COURSE CURRICULUM
Fun, calming art sessions for younger budding artists. Watercolor or Acrylic Paint on Canva or Watercolor Paper.
Art Concepts explored:
Lesson 1
Color Theory. Complimentary Colors, Color Mixes and Blending.
- Describe the colors. How are they different from what you see in nature? What color would you usually use to color the ocean?
- What colors do you see in this painting? What do the colors in this painting make you feel? happy? sad? scared?
Lesson 2
Shapes
- Describe the shapes they see? Can you find shapes that remind you of playful fish? waving seaweed? an open umbrella? sections of a beehive?
- Explore the difference between geometric, organic and abstract shapes
- We will cut up shapes and use them to create a scenic landscape piece.
Lesson 3
Texture
- We will explore texture and have messy fun. We will paint in watery strokes to create drips. We will paint in short, fat dabs and long, sleek strokes and twirl their brushes to make circles and curls. We will use sponge to layer paint. We will scratch through paint to show colors underneath.
- Students may also add fabric or textiles to the piece.
Lesson 4
Line and Form
- Explore the different lines. ( thick, thin, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, curly, curved, spiral, zig-zag, etc.
- Lines in art express different things, we will explore the different emotions and mood.
- We will explore the environment around us to find linework, then use that knowledge to create a mountain terrain or forest terrain piece.
- We will explore the use of shadows and light to create depth.
