U.I.M.A courses

This course is intended for those who are already familiar with the basics of drawing and
painting and intend to develop their skills on a new level. The course of composition will
introduce the students to the patterns of dynamic construction of images on a plain, teach them to
work in different formats (rectangle, square, circle, oval). They will learn that the emotional
content and artistic image of any piece of art depends primarily on compositional construction,
and the laws of composition are identical for all types of visual arts.

The course is designed for 12 lessons

1. An image of a favorite pet.
2. Fantasy on the theme of space.
3. The image of fish in the aquarium.
4. Transfer of emotion in the composition.
5. Exploring collage, what it is.
6. Still life from different objects.
7. Still life of flowers in a vase.
8. Composition in combination of various materials, wood paints, metal products.
9. Combination of several pictures into one whole.
10. Image of architectural and geometric compositions.
11. Study of formal, abstract composition.
12. Portrait of a family, mom, dad, brother, sister.

It is the main course for everyone who takes the first steps in the visual arts, no matter what age
they are, kids or adults. Drawing is the basis for everything. It acquaints listeners with such
important basic concepts as shape, volume, line, spot, light and shadow, reflex, plain and depth,
space, perspective. It reveals the secrets of creating a volumetric image on the plain using a
pencil or soft materials. One who knows how to hold a pencil properly acquires freedom of
expression of the wildest dreams. During sessions students will learn a step- by- step technique
of using various materials – pencil, sauce, sanguine, charcoal. Starting from scratch, the students
will gradually learn how to draw still lives, flowers, portraits, landscapes, and even a human
figure.

Course duration 12 lessons

1. Study materials, pencil, charcoal pastel. How to properly hold them in your hand, apply them to
different surfaces, paper, cardboard, canvas.
2. Drawing of geometric shapes. Acquaintance with the basics of drawing: layout in a sheet,
organization in space, perspective, stroke.
3. Drawing of architectural rosettes and draperies. Acquaintance with the simplest forms and
rhythms
4. Still life of jugs, mugs and fruits. Fundamentals of compositional and plastic construction.
5. Continuation of the still life, studying the tonality of the drawing, what is light, shadow, partial
shade, reflex.
6. Drawing with the structural features of the human head: eyes, nose, lips, ear.
7. Drawing of draperies or fabrics.
8. Drawing of the plaster head. Building proportions, composition on a sheet of paper.
9. Continuation of the drawing of the plaster head, the study of light and shade.
10. Portrait. Drawing of a living model. Basic principles of construction, proportions and
composition.
11. Continuation of the portrait drawing, black-and-white transfer of the drawing volume.
12. Figure drawing. Acquaintance with the construction of a human figure on a plane

The course of painting gives the students an opportunity to try themselves in various
painting techniques from watercolors and pastels to oils, tempera and acrylics. They will learn to
see and perceive the world in color and convey their impressions on canvas. They will learn that
different colors interact with each other in different ways. They will be surprised to find out that
sometimes only three colors are enough to create the most complex and varied color work. And
when the brushes become an extension of a hand, they will enrich this world with new pictorial
masterpieces worthy of taking their place in the most demanding collections.

The curriculum consists of 12 lessons

1. Acquaintance with color, warm and cold shades.
2. Work only in warm colors.
3. Work only in cold shades.
4. A simple still life with geometric shapes, the basic concepts of the relationship between color,
the basics of painting.
5. Complex still life. Fundamentals of compositional and plastic construction in painting.
6. Continuation of a complex still life, detailing objects using color.
7. Landscape painting, spring.
8. Scenery, summer.
9. The image of the landscape, autumn.
10. Image of the landscape, winter.
11. Portrait, basic principles of color image.
12. The figure of a person in the interior, basic principles.
