Katie Pettit

Katharine Pettit is a NYC based Director/Choreographer who served as Susan Stroman’s SDC Observer on BULLETS OVER BROADWAY on Broadway.
She served as Associate Artistic Director of NY Theatre Barn, a groundbreaking theater company whose sole focus is illuminating untold stories. Katharine is on faculty at Broadway Dance Center and Bodies in Motion (Parlin, NJ) and was featured in Dance Teacher Magazine November 2015.
She taught for the Peridance Capezio Center and The Studio (Mount Kisco, Westchester).

Katharine is a teaching artist through Astoria Performing Arts Center for their Senior Stars program which curates a full length musical revue for residents of Queens aged 60 and over.

Her professional dance company, Katharine Pettit Creative – KPC, spotlights social injustices using dance as our universal language, changing minds by opening hearts through movement. Founded in 2016, KPC’s resume and history span many dance festivals across the five boroughs, traveling to upstate NY as ambassador to the NY State Recovery Conference, and touring to the Detroit Dance City Festival with our Black Lives Matter piece.

We work with rehabilitation and recovery centers to offer alternative therapy for substance use disorder using movement as a pathway to wellness.

Katharine teaches all ages, from 6 years old to 96 years old and everyone in between.

She specializes in Jazz, Modern, Tap and Musical Theatre dance with over 20 years of experience in NYC, St. Louis, MO and regional theatres and studios in the Tri-State area.

Katharine’s teaching style is all student-driven. Every class starts with the basics, honing technique, then moving across-the-floor to build more advanced rhythms which will require endurance and strength. Every student will receive one-on-one corrections and advice to push to the level of their desire! We’ll wrap up with a combination that utilizes and expands on what we worked on in class that day. Everyone can dance!

Patricia Perez

Spanish Teacher

Hello, I am Patricia Perez from Peru.

Studying and learning languages is one of my favorite hobbies which have allowed me, as a teacher, to develop a good understanding of what works best for students when they are trying to learn a new one. I am a Spanish teacher and I have been teaching Spanish as a foreign language for the last ten years in different parts of the world, especially in China where I have been living for the last past years. I provide offline and online teaching lessons, to children and young adults, mainly.

My classes are dynamic and friendly, I love getting to know my students so I can understand better their personality, interests, needs and goals. All this allow me to use different methodologies in my lessons, with a variety of resources and activities that help students to improve their language skills, reach their goals and speak from day one.

Courses I would like to offer :

Spanish as a Foreign Language – all levels

This Spanish course provides the students with the necessary tools to acquire the Spanish language in a fluent and practical way due to my holistic methodology and varieties of the language that students are exposed to during the learning sessions.

Spanish Speaking Practice

To study this course, students must have at least an intermediate or upper intermediate level of Spanish language.

Michael Billotto

My name is Michael Billotto.

I spent my four years of undergraduate studies learning social studies, literature, philosophy, psychology, English, creative writing, and also legal studies and judicial practices.

I write creative fiction in my offtime, as well as poetry and children’s books. I have been in multiple school plays, attended chorus throughout middle and highschool, had poetry published, and overall am well versed in the humanities.

My work is focused on helping students become well articulated, studious, and confident so that they can represent themselves in the world. Being well spoken, having a command of the English language and being able to write and express it accurately; as well as strong public speaking skills, are traits I consider valuable and what I attempt to address with my students.

I love when they find passion and excitement in the work we’re doing, whether it be creatively writing a fictional narrative, composing a melodious sonnet, reading a new book, or speaking in front of their peers.

Through my courses, I want to build the arsenal of my students’ vocabulary. I want to practice with them public speaking and expression which will instill confidence and cooperation skills, as well as equip them with a competence in reading, writing, and thinking that will serve them through life.

These courses are a combination of structure, craft, and expression which will facilitate creative and practical thinking while they learn.

The most important goals when learning the humanities is:

  • Becoming better at written and verbal articulation of thoughts
  • Gaining confidence when public speaking
  • Acquiring a greater ability to read and understand english
  • Enhancing Vocabulary
  1. Characteristics, Forms, and Practice of Poetry (This will comprise of learning the structure of poetry, different types, practices and systems of writing poetry that the students can practice. By the end of the class, they will have practiced vocabulary, a variety of poetic structure, and creative thinking, which they’ll practice by writing three different types of poetry.
  2. Creative Writing: A workshop on the craft (This course will engage student’s creativity and give them an outlet to express their ideas through fiction. Students will broaden their use of vocabulary, become better writers and learn the components of story and narratives. By the end of the class, they will have worked on two short stories and written a completely revised and polished short story.

Manasvini Nayar

My name is Manasvini Nayar and I’m a recent graduate of Parsons School of Design.

I majored in Illustration design and spent my four years exploring 2D, 3D and 4D (Animation) design.

I have majored in Illustration design but also work as a graphic designer and Typographer.

My work is a mix of digital and analog illustration and fine rat pieces.

I work with the social cause of women as objects and make work that encourages an empowered and independent attitude.

I love listening to and learning from young minds that flourish in excitement as they explore their imagination through shapes, colors and perspectives.

About My Courses

Through my courses, I want to encourage not only learning new technical/artistic skills but also a different approach to seeing and perspectives and be able to bridge the gap between dreams and reality.

These courses are a combination of skill, social and modern relevance and a connection to art history and contemporary and classical artists.

Most importantly these projects will encourage students to use recycled materials or learn how to upcycle everyday objects, and understand that being an artist is about a way of thinking and not a material based skill.

  1. Deconstructing Photoshop ( Introduction to basic concepts of layering, color/shape masking and cropping. We will use paper to study photoshop techniques such a collage and photomontage and build a way of thinking out of the box)
  2. DIY with nature ( Learning to recycle and upcycle everyday materials – using a Halloween mask and other projects)
  3. Intro to Typography ( Intro to making letterforms with not just ink and paint but pictures, other letters and blocking and patterning if colors)

Mani was a great instructor during my digital and film photography class; she is so kind and patient. She explains difficult concepts (such as on photoshop) so simply and skillfully. Aside from her teaching skills, I grew such an appreciation for what a wonderful person she is, and enjoyed coming to class just to talk to her!

I’ve completed multiple online courses on digital illustrations but all are unparalleled to Manasvini’s. Her teaching techniques are quite insightful as well as relatable and easily comprehensible. She brings a certain flair to the world of digital illustrations and her professional techniques are quite in touch with the real world of art. I feel that her dedication and commitment by ensuring my progress really allowed me to learn better. I hardly think other instructors online, in my experience, are as invested in the student’s learning as she is.

Clivette Williams

Biology, Chemistry, Physics.

My name is Clivette Williams, a first generation university graduate and Biology major from Fayetteville State University.

I chose science because in the 5th grade I learned about the human body and how it functioned which intrigued me to want to learn more. Later down the line I realized science and medical related sciences was my calling.

I have traveled 4 continents where I was able to become proficient in 5 languages including English.

My goal in life is to give back to my community while ultimately help save lives. When I am not in the books I like to listen to music, enjoy quality time with my loved ones, or walk my puppy.

I love learning new things and being able to share it with others I believe it is the beauty of knowledge the fact that we can always share it.

Although I excelled at many subjects, I still struggled with some but my parent couldn’t afford a tutor, so I made it my duty if I can to help others academically succeed because I understand how challenging it can be.

Some of the subjects I would love to offer are Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Algebra, and Pre-Calculus.

Helen Lopez-Gonzalez

PreK-Elementary Art Teacher

About me:
My name is Helen Lopez-Gonzalez, wife and a mother of two boys. I come from a very large family. I am very passionate when it comes to art, I’ve enjoyed art since the 1st grade. I’ve been teaching for 4 years working with young kids. Working with kids has been my favorite experience for they have such creative minds and are so lovable to joyful to be around.

My favorite art is pop art for all the fun colors when can use it.
I feel as though for the young generation pop art is best to work with just cause there is no structural way it is very fun and easy going and best of all very colorful.
I feel as though its away of free are and away for kids to freely express themselves.
Another similar art in which I like to do is abstract art with everyday object Abstract art is a modern art that does not represent images of our everyday world.
It has color, lines, and shapes (form), but they are not intended to represent objects or living things.
Abstract art  is found in painting and in sculpture.
Op art  is more for older age students for the matter that it is more time consuming and it is also very well detailed. I do feel as OP art is very structural for the reason there is a pattern in which one is following.
It is a form of abstract art where geometric shapes like lines and rectangles and vertical blocks were repeated to create images.
Minimalism Art was an art movement which focused on art that is simple yet beautiful.
This art is abstract which might or might not represent anything. The colors are minimum, sometimes to just one. The boundaries of colors are hard-edged. Repetition of a form is common.

I hired Mrs. Lopez to keep my two six year old boys entertained and to give them something different to do in place of an art class that would typically happen in school. It was an amazing class that my boys enjoyed along with me and husband. She gave the boys a variety of options on what to paint and she even let me and my husband join in. It was very interactive. She was very energetic and did an amazing job helping and giving the boys directions. It was very entertaining and a lot of fun. I highly recommend and will be booking in the future.
